Szoke and Welsh continue to up the pace.

May 22, 2009

CALABOGIE, Ont. (May 22) - As the first day of official practice got underway the skies darkened and light rain began to fall.  The morning Sportbike and Superbike session were effectively scrubbed by factory riders Jordan Szoke and Alex Welsh as the limited amount of rain left the track surface to unpredictable and slippery.

The afternoon Sportbike session was met with more favorable weather and both Jordan Szoke and Alex Welsh took to the track to test the chassis changes made to the Ninja ZX-6R from the previous day. Szoke quickly rocketed to the top of the timesheets, completing a string of laps in the 2.3 second range and ending the session with the fastest time of 2:03.129 seconds. Welsh continued his steady progress ending the session in fifth with a time of 2:05.024.

In Superbike action, Szoke quickly found his form from the previous day and was lapping in the low 2:02 range, progressively lowering his times throughout the 40 minute session.  In the final moments of the session Szoke elected to up the pace to test a setting for tomorrows qualifying session and lowered his time to 2:01.897 seconds. Welsh worked hard throughout the session with his crew chief Jeremy Sharrard and made a significant step forward with a drop of more than two seconds compared to the previous day. Welsh's efforts moved him up to sixth fastest with a final time of 2:03.675.

Tomorrow's weather looks promising and should be near perfect conditions for Superpole.
