Two More Podiums for Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki at Calgary

June 20, 2011

Politelli, Maier both take podium finishes in mud soaked day in Alberta

Kamloops, BC(June 20, 2011) The third round of the 2011 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals took place this past weekend at Calgary, Alberta's Wild Rose MX park and after great weather the first two weekends the rains finally caught up and it made for a messy day at the track. With the sloppy track conditions the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki mechanics worked hard to prep their KX machines for the conditions and their hard work paid off with a second straight weekend of double podiums.

Fresh off his first Canadian podium the weekend before in Nanaimo, Austin Politelli led the charge in MX2. Caught up in a first turn crash along with his teammate, Tyler Sjoberg, Politelli remounted at the back of the field before making one of the more impressive charges through the pack in recent memory as he came all the way back from almost dead last to grab third place, and the final podium spot, on the last lap. Also coming through the pack was Sjoberg who managed to work himself up to 7th by the checkered flag. Politelli made no mistakes for the start of moto two as he grabbed a huge holeshot and led the opening part of the race before finishing a well earned second place and second overall on the day. Unfortunately for Sjoberg, he suffered a flat tire and despite a quick tire change by the team, he was only able make it up to 24th by moto's end. Keeping the green bikes up front was Leading Edge support rider, Spencer Knowles, who continued his strong season with a solid sixth place finish.

In MX1 it was more strong showings by the Leading Edge team as Teddy Maier again led the charge. The 2009 MX2 champion came through the pack in moto one to take another podium finish with a third place ride. Right behind him was his teammate, Matt Goerke, who continued to show improvement with his broken wrist as he finished 4th. Putting another Leading Edge bike in the top 10 was support rider, Brock Hoyer, who continues to impress in 2011 as he finished in 8th place. For moto two conditions got really severe as heavy hail started to fall as the gate dropped and the rain picked up all moto long. Maier came back from a fall to grab 5th at the end of the moto two and his second straight podium finish. Goerke also suffered a tip over in the mucky conditions and worked back up to 10th for 7th overall. Hoyer also grabbed another top 10 overall with a 7th in the moto and 8th overall.

Now the series keeps heading east as the teams roll into Morden, Manitoba's Shadow Valley Raceway next weekend for round four of the 2011 season. For more info on the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross National series visit
