May 23, 2009

CALABOGIE, Ont. (May 23) - A gorgeous day greeted Canadian Kawasaki's riders Jordan Szoke and Alex Welsh as they completed final preparations for the afternoons qualifying sessions. The opening round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Calabogie Motorsports Park marks the first time the series competitors will qualify on the 5.05km (3.05-mile) "long Track" configuration.

Szoke, who admits he feels right at home on this type of fast flowing circuit, wasted no time in moving his Ninja ZX-6R into the lead during the early moments of Sportbike qualifying. Szoke was never challenged throughout the 30 minute session and ended 1.2 seconds clear of his closest rival with blistering lap of 2:01.200.

Meanwhile teammate Welsh continued his steady progress toward the front with a final lap of 2:03.405 seconds earning him 5th position and a second row starting position for tomorrow's race.

In the Pirelli Superpole qualifying session for the Parts Canada Superbike Championship, five-time Superbike champion Szoke qualified second with a time of 2:00.798 on his Ninja ZX-10R. The time was the fastest for Szoke thus far in the weekend and earned him 3 championship points and a front row starting position.  Rookie Pro Welsh will start his first professional Superbike race from the second row after setting the 6th fastest time with a time of 2:02.429 seconds.
