July 17, 2009
Toronto, Ont. ( July 17th) - Canadian Kawasaki's factory riders Jordan Szoke and Alex Welsh had an outstanding day of qualifying action at Mosport International Raceway on Friday. Szoke claimed is third Sportbike pole position of the season and smashed the outright lap record in the process with a blistering lap of 1:22.653, which eclipsed the previous mark of 1:23.130 set last year around the 3.9km (2.459-mile) track. Welsh continued his impressive form by qualifying 4th at 1:24.175 on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R to earn his first front row start of the season.
In Superbike action, Szoke will start both superbike races from the runner up position after narrowly missing pole position by 0.108 seconds after setting a time of 1:21.482 aboard his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R during Pirelli SuperPole qualifying.
"I had a good lap going but I hit neutral on the backstraight and I was searching for a gear all the way through turn eight. When I found a gear it was fourth, and I needed third. It was my fault. I was confident the lap was going to be a [one minute] 20."
Welsh will lead the second row of the Superbike grid after turning a time of 1:23.121 on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
Watch for both Kawasaki riders at the front for tomorrow's races.
