Nigel Heggarty Race Report - May 23rd Lake Odessa, MI

This track was super fast! It is definitely the fastest half mile I've ever ridden. I took me a while to adjust to the track. The bike was perfect. I was just unfamiliar with the track. It was my first time ever ridding a big clay track. In practice I was getting faster every lap and becoming more and more comfortable. In the main I got a bad start but by the end of the second lap I was in 4th. I put my head down and made up ground on my brother. I rode inches behind him for the next four laps. We managed to get ourselves into 2nd and 3rd as we took advantage of Chaz Springsteen getting off the groove and running wide through turn 3. I stayed right behind Colin for the next couple laps trying to make the pass but decided it would be better to collect the prize money rather than taking a chance at diving underneath him on the slick track. We ended up only making fifty bucks between the two of us but I was content with that. No gas money but it payed for our entry fees. That night we drove back to the Vanderkuur's house in Davison Michigan where we spent the night. Many thanks go to the Vanderkuur family for putting us up for the night. We really appreciated it.
