Nigel Heggarty Race Report - June 14th, Welland ON

For practice the track was super slick but as the sun went down the moisture came up and the track was mint. In my 450 expert heat I got a good start and ended up third with a pretty uneventful race. In my Expert 600 race I got the holeshot and lead the group into turn one but quickly went backwards. I ended up fourth in that heat. Once again I was starting from the second for both my mains. In the 450 Expert main I got an ok start but could only make my way to an 8th place finish - just like last week.
The 600 expert race was a blast, again I was starting on the second row. I got a great launch and was in 5th coming out of turn 2. I held that position for most of the race but with about three laps to go things quickly changed. The race was split into two packs of riders with me leading the second. I guess I started to get sloppy leading without anyone in close range ahead to dice with. I managed to screw up enough to let 3 riders behind me get by. I did manage to pick up the pace and for the last two laps and went side by side with Chris Evans. He tried to get me through turn three and four but I got on the gas hard and managed to hold on to my 9th place. I was happy with my ride and know what I need to work on. I'm used to riding 8 lap mains as an intermediate class rider not the 15 lap expert races. These guys are all really fast but it won't take me long. I'm not that far off.
