Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki debuts in dominant fashion at Ste. Julie
May 27, 2008
Round 1 of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Nationals is in the books and the race marked the debut of the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki as Kawasaki's official MX2 team. Things could not have gone any better as Leading Edge teammates Teddy Maier and Nick Evennou swept the top two positions on their Kawasaki KX250F's. Maier's 1-3 and Evennou's 2-2 moto scores gave the pair first and second overall, respectively.
Evennou put the power of his KX250f to good use off the start, nabbing the second moto holeshot and leading both motos. Nick was excited with how his day went, "The bikes are great, the team is awesome and I'm so happy with the opportunity Jason Hughes gave me to show what I can do."
For Maier, his first moto podium was hard fought. After finding himself mid-pack at the start of the first moto he put his head down and started working his way up, making his way all the way to third by moto's end. The second moto saw him grab a better start and after battling with his teammate Evennou, managed to get the lead and hold it till the checkers, taking the overall by a single point over his fellow Leading Edge Kawasaki rider.
The team's third rider, Brock Hoyer didn't have the weekend he was looking to have, suffering a mechanical failure after hitting a downed bike in the first moto but with practice times in the Top 10 both Saturday and Sunday he will be looking for redemption at the next round at Gopher Dunes and will be looking to put his Kawasaki up front with his teammates.
