Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Sweeps the Gopher Dunes National

July 18, 2011

Kamloops, BC(July 18, 2011) The hot, rough, sandy conditions were the ideal place to show off the hard work that the Leading Edge team has been putting in and right from the get go things got off to a great start with Tyler Sjoberg qualifying in the number one spot in MX2. Following up in MX1 was Matt Goerke, who used the three week break to further heal his injured wrist, logging the quickest time.

The motos were no different, as Austin Politelli and Tyler Sjoberg wasted no time making their way to the front in the first MX2 moto and the teammates put on a solid riding clinic as they battled for the lead. Politelli would eventually pull out a bit of a lead and take his first ever Canadian moto win while Sjoberg would tip over but still regroup to join Politelli on the podium, in third. The second moto was more of the same, as Politelli and Sjoberg were both at the front of the pack but unfortunately Sjoberg would go down and have to work his way back to sixth by the end of the moto. Out front though, Politelli had worked his way into the lead after passing early leader, Kaven Benoit, to take his second moto and first ever overall win.

For the start of the first MX1 moto it was Goerke's turn to run at the front as he worked his way around a couple riders and eventually worked his way past Colton Facciotti to take the lead and check out for his first Canadian win, and the teams first ever MX1 win. The second moto was almost a carbon copy as Goerke got into the lead and despite a late charge by Facciotti, took the win and the team's first ever MX1 overall win, ending Facciotti's season long unbeaten streak. Said Goerke after the race, “ Man, I'm so glad to get this win today, not just for me but for my team. I was finally able to let my wrist heal up over the course of the three week break and I'm just thankful to repay my team's faith in me and I hope to be able to be in the mix for the rest of the season.”

Said team owner, Jason Hughes, on his team's amazing day, “ Man, you can't have asked for a better day than this. When we took on the MX1 program this season we could only dream of having a race day where we would qualify first in both classes and win all four motos. Without everyone's hard work and the support of our sponsors there's no way we could ever have achieved this!”

The team now looks to keep their momentum rolling as they head to Quebec next weekend to the Circuit de Ste Julie near Montreal. To check out more info on the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross series, visit
