Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Sweeps Overall Wins for Second Straight Weekend
June 13, 2012
Goerke, Maier continue winning streak at Whispering Pines
Kamloops, BC(June 11, 2012) For a second straight week in the 2012 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Championships, the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki team has stood atop the podium in both classes as the series made it’s stop at the home of the Leading Edge team, Kamloops, British Columbia, for the second round of the series.
Coming off their wins at the muddy opening round of the series in Nanaimo, both MX2 rider, Teddy Maier, and MX1 points leader, Matt Goerke, were eager to show they were the favorites no matter what the weather conditions brought and they put a stamp on their respective title chases with dominant 1-1 moto sweeps for both riders. MX2 started things off and for the second straight weekend, Kyle Beaton would grab the holeshot and the early lead. Eventually, Maier would work his way by but Beaton would join his teammate on the podium at moto’s end with a third place finish. Combined with a 5th in moto two would give Beaton fourth overall on the day and he now sits third in the title chase.
Beaton was just happy to make it out of Kamloops healthy and with a solid finishing position. Said Beaton on his day, “it’s no secret that I’ve struggled with injuries at Kamloops the past few seasons so even though I want to be winning, I’m happy to get through this race healthy and I’m excited to get on to Calgary and check out the new layout!”
With Beaton finishing solidly in both motos, it was teammate, Maier, who put his stamp on the championship chase with two dominating moto wins. Working his way through the pack in both motos, he rode into the lead and never looked back, taking a decisive lead to the checkered flag in both motos to stretch out his lead in the championship standings to 11points.
In MX1 action, just like Maier, Matt Goerke came into the weekend wearing the red number plate signifying the points lead and with two dominating moto wins at Kamloops, left little to lead anyone to think he’s going to relinquish it anytime soon. After grabbing the holeshot in moto one, Goerke found himself on the ground in the second corner and had to work his way through the pack from last place. The Florida native put on a riding clinic as he diced through the entire field to take the lead and check out with a huge lead. Moto two saw more of the same as Goerke grabbed the lead again and never looked back. With a perfect four for four in moto wins so far this season, Goerke is proving to be the class of the field.
Also putting in a great ride was Goerke’s teammate, Tyler Villopoto, who finished the day with 6-5 moto finishes for a well deserved 4th overall in MX1. After getting caught up in the same crash that took down Goerke, Villopoto also put in an impressive charge through the pack to grab 6th. Combined with his 5th in moto two, he’s knocking on the door of his first podium in only his second pro race.
Now the team moves on to Calgary, Alberta for round three of the series, at Wild Rose MX, right in the heart of the city. For more info on the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross National series, visit www.cmrcracing.com
