Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Marches Towards Double Championship Sweep at Moncton
August 9, 2012
Goerke continues dominant 2012 season with another 1-1 sweep at Riverglade
Kamloops, BC (August 8, 2012) Round 7 of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals took place just outside Moncton, New Brunswick, for the 35th annual race on the hallowed grounds of the Riverglade facility. Hot weather and a slight breeze made keeping moisture in the track a constant battle, but once the gate dropped for the first moto, the red dirt was in great shape for the racers.
Kyle Beaton grabbed the first MX2 moto holeshot and led the first two laps. He was looking strong until a crash on the 4th lap put him on the ground hard in front of the mechanics’ area. The result was a broken left leg that will put him out of competition for the remainder of the season. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
Teammate, Teddy Maier, got off to a top 10 start and quickly set his sights on the leaders. By mid-way of the first moto, Maier had climbed his way to 3rd position and, although he was gaining on the leaders, had to settle for 3rd place.
In the second moto, Maier was in 3rd place early and working his way to the front. By the halfway mark he was alone in 2nd place and making a run at the leader, Kaven Benoit. With less than three laps to go, Teddy was pressuring for the lead, but ran out of time in the race. His 3-2 moto scores put him in 2nd place overall on the day. On the podium, Maier stated that he was happy to be in the points lead heading into the final two rounds and that he will now be able to ride more relaxed. Maier goes into the second-last round with a 27-point lead.
In MX1 action, Tyler Villopoto stole the show with his amazing scrubs off the step-down jump and had the Atlantic Canada crowd cheering their approval. Lap after lap, Tyler would impress with his bike-handling skills. A strong 5th in the second moto gave him 9th overall on the day.
Matt Goerke put his red points leader plate out front early in the first moto and rode unchallenged
to yet another moto win. In the 2nd, he was able to grab the holeshot and, although Bobby Kiniry kept things interesting at the front, Goerke was able to win this moto wire-to-wire extending his points lead to a commanding 47 points with two rounds remaining.
The series now moves to the penultimate round, near our nation’s capital of Ottawa, at the rough and sandy Sand-Del-Lee National in Richmond, Ontario.
