Kaven Benoît’s Race Report - Walton

September 3, 2009

I was in Walton, Ontario last weekend for the last round of the National CMRC Championships. It was excruciatingly hot with temperatures reaching 30° Celsius but the track was great.

I started the weekend on a good note and finished 8th in the qualifiers. I was therefore well positioned at the starting gate. However, I committed a terrible mistake: I was so focused on the upcoming race that I forgot to change my eye protection after the warm up tour and I raced without any tear-offs. Of course, the organisers had watered the track to reduce dust and, without eye protection, I finished 11th. I was rather disappointed with my mistake, especially since I had been so confident at the start of the race.

I was truly motivated for the second moto but bad luck struck once again. When the grid went down, I pushed on the gas but my bike slipped on neutral and I started the race last. I managed a recovery and finished 11th.

These results are somewhat disappointing but I know that I gave it all I had. The series is over and I am now focusing on the last 3 rounds of the provincial championship.

Overall Results: 12th in the 2009 National Championship in the MX2 (250F) series. Considering my mishaps in 3 of the rounds, and my budget which was far below that of the top 10 racers, I am truly proud of my performance.
