Another Week, Another Win for Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki

June 25, 2012

Goerke takes clean sweep in MX1, Maier remains in points lead in MX2 at Castrol Raceway

Kamloops, BC(June 26 2012) After a one year hiatus, the Monster Engery CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals returned to Edmonton Alberta's, Castrol Raceway, and with it, the Monster Engery Leading Edge Kawasaki team returned, sporting the red number plates of series points leaders in both classes, with Teddy Maier and Matt Goerke respectively.

With rain in the forecast, just enough of the wet stuff fell on Saturday night to make the track perfect, with moist, tacky soil greeting the riders along with sunny skies on Sunday morning. The great conditions made for an exciting first moto as Teddy Maier grabbed the early lead an waged an epic battle with Jeremy Medaglia for the MX2 moto win, coming out on top to stretch his points lead to 20. Disaster would strike in moto 2 as the starting gate would flinch, leading the Iowa native to jump early and get stuck in the gate. Coming around the first turn in last place, Mair put in an inspiring, championship saving ride to come all the way back to third by the end of the moto and finish second overall on the day.

The team's other MX2 rider, Kyle Beaton, has been working his way back up to speed after missing the entire 2011 season due to a knee injury, and Edmonton was another sign that Beaton is returning to form as he joined his teammate Maier, on the podium with third overall on the strength of 6-2 moto finishes. He currently sits third in the MX2 points standings.

For MX1 points leader, Matt Goerke, Edmonton was a chance to show that all his hard packed training this past winter would pay off, as well as give him a change to avenge his only loss of the season the weekend before at Calgary. Goerke, who in the past has been known as a sand specialist, showed that he's now the man to beat on any track surface as the Florida native slowly ground down his competition before making the pass for the lead in both motos to take another clean sweep, 1-1 moto win day for his third overall win in four rounds.

Said Matt of his day at Edmonton, "Yeah, it was tough today. I didnt get the greatest starts but it felt good, worked my way through the pack and caught Bobby (Kiniry) in both motos and had some great battles. It was good."

There was a little bit of suspense for Tyler Villopoto when the entire team had to pull together to swap an engine right before the start of the MX1 moto. Missing his gate pick, Villopoto was forced to line up on the far outside of the starting line and had to charge through the pack to finish 7th. He would end up 9th overall on the day.

The series takes a three week hiatus before resuming at the deep sand of Courtland, Ontario's Gopher Dunes on July 14th.
