Salom Fourth In Brno Race And The Championship Standings

July 10, 2011

WSS, Brno, Czech Republic, 10 July 2011 - David Salom missed a podium place by one position at Brno as he took more valuable championship points away, getting to within one point of second place, which his team-mate Broc Parkes occupies.

Salom took his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R to a front row starting place alongside Parkes, and made a good start, but after he experienced some issues with tyre life in the middle of the race he had no chance to catch up to the leading duo of Gino Rea and Fabien Foret, and he was finally passed by championship leader Chaz Davies.

The points for fourth at Brno still keep David in a strong position to challenge in the remaining five rounds and his improvement in qualifying is helping his cause on raceday more consistently as each race weekend goes by.

Despite falling for the second time in succession while in the leading mix for the podium places, Broc remains second in the championship. With Davies unable to add to his race win total in the Czech Republic, Parkes still has five rounds to make up the points deficit of 36 to the British rider.

The race at Brno was stopped three laps early by a red flag, after a technical problem with another machine and a few crashes – including a small trackside fire – brought proceedings to a halt.

Lorenzini By Leoni Kawasaki riders Massimo Roccoli and Vittorio Iannuzzo had very different experiences at Brno on raceday. Roccoli fell while in a good position and remounted to finish 15th (scoring a point) but Iannuzzo was in better shape and took a top ten finish for the third time this year.

The next round will take place at Silverstone, in the United Kingdom, between 29 and 31 July.

David Salom: “A good race and maybe the best start this year except for Phillip Island. After ten laps the rear started to give me no grip and it was not possible to go fast. All the same, I think it was a good race for me and I’m in fourth position in the championship, only one point from second place. I think we did a good job. The temperature was high today but we went for the soft tyre and some others went for a medium.”

Broc Parkes: “I lost the front end again. I have been struggling with feel from the front in the past two races and I do not know exactly why. I had no warnings in the corners and just fell by losing the front. I am very disappointed this time, more than at the last race. We had the pace last time but I just did not have the race pace at this round. It is not good to crash in the first few laps. But we are still second overall and have a lot of races left to run.”
