Welland County Speedway is a funny shaped little clay oval that the local guys really haul on. The last time here had not gone well and I wasn't expecting to do very well.
In practice everything was clicking. Our guess on set up was very close. In my first heat of the night for the pro 450 class I got a good start but everyone jumped the start so bad. I pulled hard off the line and managed to catch the group and stayed with the pack the whole race but I found it very hard to pass. I ended up fifth. Next up was the pro 600 heat. This time everyone left at the light and I got a really good jump of the line. I was in third the whole race until I got passed on the last lap. Both heat finishing positions were good enough to get me straight into the main and much better than expected.
Before the mains we made a gearing change to help the bike pull out of the corners a little faster. The expert 450 race was first. I got a good start again and made my way past a couple of riders but never really made anything work. I settled for 8th. The 600 expert was a full race with three rows. I was on the second row. I got a great start and then sliced and diced my way through turns one and two to come into the back straight in 6th. I followed Chris Evans for the next couple of laps before I got a good drive coming out of 2 and managed to get inside of him coming into turn three. I was up to fifth place. I kept on charging to try and get up there. Coming into turn 1 on the sixth lap I drove it in a little too hard and slid up the race track. Before I could get it turned I managed to drop back to 7th place. I was in seventh for the next few laps until Scott Sehl and I tangled coming into turn one. He accidentally clipped my front wheel and again I had to pitch it side ways to avoid the fast approaching fence. Now I was 11th ! I did make up some ground and made a last lap made pass for 10th. The results don't really say much but I had a blast, to bad I went backwards from stupid mistakes. I proved to my self that when the motor isn't an issue I can run the pace. My KX450 is awesome, now I have to smarten up!
