Nick Evennou makes his first podium appearance of 2009

Kamloops, B.C. (Jun 15, 2009) Round 2 of the Monster Energy CMRC Nationals found the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team in Calgary at the Wild Rose MX Park. After a successful debut weekend the week before at Kamloops with Teddy Maier nabbing a podium spot the team was looking to build on their success and they certainly delivered.

In the first moto, all three Leading Edge riders found themselves in the top 5 off the start, with Maier, Nick Evennou and Brock Hoyer all at the front of the pack. Maier made quick work to dispatch Kyle McGlynn to take the lead and would eventually finish second after being passed by fellow Kawasaki pilot, Dean Wilson. Evennou would take a small spill but recover for 7th, while Brock Hoyer stayed in the top 5 pack right to the finish to record a career best finish with a 5th.

For the second moto, it was again all Leading Edge off the start as Maier would grab the holeshot. Unfortunately, the race would be red flagged due to a downed rider. On the restart it would be his teammate Hoyer who grabbed the start and early lead, the first lap’s lead of his career for the young B.C. native. Evennou followed close behind his teammate and made the pass for the lead on the second lap and tried to put some distance on the pack but again Dean Wilson would make the pass to take the win. Evennou would hold onto second to make his first podium appearance since last season's Gopher Dunes national. For Nick, it would be redemption after a hard winter of training with noted motocross trainer, Ryan Hughes. Teddy Maier couldn't repeat his holeshot magic on the restart but worked his way up to 9th by the end of the moto and took valuable points from his rival, Eric Nye, who had mechanic troubles in the first moto.

Evennou's 7-2 moto scores gave him 3rd overall on the day and his first podium finish of the season, while Maier's 2-9 gave him 5th and Hoyer's 5-10 scores gave him 8th, a great showing for everyone on the team. With Dean Wilson only slated to contest one more round, Maier finds himself firmly atop the standings for the riders who are competing in the whole series.

Wild Rose also marked round 2 of the Canadian Women's series and Leading Edge's Missy Hackett rode to 7-4 moto scores for 4th overall. The Women's series now takes a break till the Gopher Dunes round on July 19th.

Next weekend the riders will travel to Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta for round 3 of the series. For more info and photos from Calgary, check out the Leading Edge blog at
