Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki takes another win at River Glade

Teddy Maier takes his second MX2 win of the 2009 season Kamloops, B.C.(Aug 02, 2009) This week the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team headed all the way to the east coast for round seven of the 2009 Monster Energy CMRC Nationals at River Glade MX in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Maritime atmosphere served the team well, as they raced to another win and one step closer to the MX2 title for Teddy Maier.
After last weekend's heavy rains it was a relief to see Sunday morning dawn sunny and clear. The track had received a bit of rain on Friday but by race day the track conditions were perfect and Maier demonstrated by logging the fastest lap in the first practice session. He backed that up with a number two qualifying position and the second gate pick. Unfortunately he wasn't able to parlay that into a good start and rounded the first turn out of the top positions. Maier wouldn't stay there for long, as he put on an impressive charge and picked off riders one by one until he made a pass stick on Jeremy Medaglia to take the lead around the halfway point. From there, Maier stretched out his lead to take the moto victory, his fourth of the season and left no doubt as to why he's the points leader in the MX2 class. Following in behind him to take the final spot on the podium was his teammate, Nick Evennou, who rode to his second consecutive 3rd place finish, following up on his impressive display in the mud last weekend in Quebec. Last week's number two finisher, Brock Hoyer, was also in the mix early in the moto before a rock to the knee caused him to limp home in the number ten position.
In moto two, Maier again got a mid pack start but he wasn't too concerned as he put his head down and began to pick off riders one by one on his Pat O'Connor tuned KX250F and worked his way all the way up to third by the end of the moto. The finish was good enough to take his second overall win of the 2009 season and he picked up two more valuable points in his hunt for the championship. Nick Evennou, the 2007 winner at River Glade, looked to have a second podium position locked up for the Leading Edge team as he ran comfortably in fourth near the end of the moto but he crashed hard at the end of the high speed “GP” section. Though injured, he managed to remount and tough out a tenth place finish before heading to the hospital for further examination. His 3-10 scores still gave him 5th overall on the day and was a testiment to the toughness that he displayed. Brock Hoyer was also feeling the effects of his first moto injury but rode hard for a ninth in moto two and a well earned 8th overall on the day.
In the end, Maier took the overall and extended his points lead atop the MX2 leader board to 19 points. Evennou gutted out a fifth overall and Hoyer an 8th so it was a good day for the team. Better news was that Evennou had no major injuries and will be ready to go for next weekend's race. The team now heads to the small hamlet of Munster, Ontario for the penultimate round of the 2009 series, at Sand Del Lee MX park outside of Ottawa.
