Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki Clinches Title at Walton

August 21, 2009

Teddy Maier wins his first MX2 Championship

Kamloops, BC(Aug 18, 2009) The 2009 Monster Energy CMRC National Motocross Championship concluded Sunday as round 9 of the series took place in Walton, Ontario. The team came into the race with high hopes as Teddy Maier maintained a 28 point lead over KTM's Eric Nye. The Fort Dodge, Iowa native didn't disappoint as he got a top 10 start and worked his way up to second. With Nye behind him, Maier only had to maintain his position to clinch the title and he did just that, taking second place at the checkered flag. With second in the moto, his victory in the championship was assured, and Maier only had to take a victory ride in the second moto. Still, Maier charged hard to third in the moto and second overall for the day.

Meanwhile in the first moto, the team's two other riders, Maryland's Nick Evennou and British Columbia's Brock Hoyer came across the finish line in 5th and 6th place, respectively. It was another great showing for the team and Hoyer would go on to finish 6th overall for the day, his best finish of the season aside of his podium ride in the mud at Ste. Thecle. Unfortunately for Evennou, a flat tire while running third would diminish his second moto but his strong first moto still gave him 13th overall on the day.  The pair would end up finishing up strong in the championship with Hoyer finishing 7th and Evennou 8th. For all three riders it would be a big improvement over the 2008 season and a great testament to how well the all new 2009 Kawasaki KX250F served them all season.

Maier had this to say on his 2009 season, “Man, I'm so pumped. I've been coming up here for years and this year I worked so hard. I'm glad to have finally pulled it off. I can't wait to run the number one plate! I'm so thankful to Jason Hughes for giving me this opportunity to come back to Canada and my mechanic Pat O'Connor for building me the best bike out there. I'm excited to come back and defend my title next year.”

The Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team will now return to British Columbia to prepare for the Montreal SX. Teddy Maier will be racing the MX1 class while Brock Hoyer will be racing the MX2 class.
